On October 9, 2016, cruise missiles were fired from Yemen at the USS Mason and the USS Ponce. The attacks were nullified by the U.S. defense systems that included Sea Sparrow missiles. On Thursday morning, October 14, 2016, the US Navy fired Tomahawk missiles destroying three radar sites within Yemen.
Data Science Automation (DSA) played a key role in the success of the two weapons systems used by the Navy. The RIM-7 Sea Sparrow is a U.S. ship-borne short-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile weapon system that uses folding wings which allow for more missiles to be loaded into the launcher. The Tomahawk is a long-range, all-weather, subsonic cruise missile.
Working with Navy engineers & scientists, DSA developed two test applications, one that evaluated the performance of the springs used to unfold the wings in the Sea Sparrow missiles and another that was used to test the guidance and navigation systems used by Tomahawk missiles. DSA is proud to be part of keeping U.S. sailors and warships safe. Read more http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/10/13/us-missiles-destroy-houthi-controlled-radar-sites-on-yemen-coast.html
