Co-CREATE Kickoff Luncheon Went Off Without a Hitch!

At this year’s Co-CREATE Kickoff Luncheon, our 2018 Co-Creators got the chance to introduce themselves and their ideas in a more personal setting. The event, hosted at Pittsburgh Technology Council (PTC) headquarters, included last year’s cohorts and this year’s partners, mentors, and advisors.

The intent of the program is to nurture the new class and their creative endeavours, helping them find success both locally and nationally. “No more starving artists,” says Claude Worthington, Vice President of the Benedum Foundation and Co-CREATE advisor.

Co-CREATE incorporates the help of three parties: partners, advisors, and mentors. The people in these groups assist the cohorts in unique ways as they traverse the program. Partners assist in the mission, advisors lead the direction of the program, and mentors will work one-on-one with the cohorts, helping them to expand their business skills. We truly believe in the power of collaboration and think this system promotes that. For more information on the 2018 leadership team, visit our site!

At the luncheon, each Co-CREATOR took 10 minutes to give a casual presentation about the creative concept they want to focus on in the coming months. Some concepts include Start with Art, a program that gives newborns a piece of art to start what will hopefully become a lifelong collection; Knotzland, which makes artisan bowties from recycled textiles; and toomanysparkles, which creates upcycled cards, notebooks, and art from collected fabrics.

The event was an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other’s passions first-hand. Rich, who is working to create a “one stop shop” for veterans and veteran’s aid says, “I’m very left-brained. It’s just that 10% of my right brain is always on fire.” Byron Nash, well-known musician, says “I have ambition that drives me crazy.” Finally, Cara Livorio, who owns and runs Artissima Studio single-handedly, simply says, “Art makes life worth living.”

These words set the stage for the rest of the program. In the coming months, you’ll get a more in-depth look at each of our Co-CREATORS, and you might even find that you share some of the same passions. Stay tuned, and follow their journey to CREATE Fest ‘18!
