The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association will co-host a one-day MediaThon event themed around the news  industry on Saturday, September 6, at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

What is a MediaThon? Call it a “hack-a-thon” for media makers. It’s a fun and productive day of people gathered to create media of all types around a specific purpose or cause. In small groups, participants both cooperate and compete to see what can be accomplished using any media and technologies tools they can think of.

“We’re thrilled to have the PNA as partners in this MediaThon,” says Dorian Benkoil, MediaThon founder, journalist, and principle of Teeming Media. “We’re excited for the chance to bring the journalistic, creative and tech communities together in Pittsburgh to see what everyone can create.”

Inspire the News: You know what you love about newspapers and the news. Gather in a fun, creative and competitive environment to create media that shows your passion about what news media is and can be. Use blogs, apps, video, APIs, Instagram, Twitter, games — anything you can to make the most compelling case to the widest possible community. Come with your ideas, assemble a team, and spend the day competing to create the best piece(s) of media you can that, in two minutes or less, promotes the news business. The top team has the chance to win a prize of $1,000!

“We’re really excited about the creative potential this event has to offer. We’re looking for ‘outside-the-box’ thinking that inspires not only our newspaper members, but the entire community, to experience and promote the value of newspapers and the news industry today, and into the future,” says Teri Henning, President, PNA.
