The old adage “Time flies when you’re having fun” certainly rings true when you’re covering Pittsburgh’s fast-moving tech sector. I don't know where the summer went, but realized it was practically fall when Comcast demo'd its new X1 Sports App for the debut of this year's football season.

Gone are the days of keeping track of your fantasy team on your laptop while watching the game. Get your stats right there while you watch! Comcast even recruited Pittsburgh Steeler Legend Jack Ham to promote the new technology. Check out my interview with Jack to learn more about the X1 Sports App.

Taking place September 14–16, 2015, in National Harbor, Maryland, Air & Space is the premier event for defense-focused aerospace industries.

This is the 14th year for the Tech Showcase and as in previous years, the University will showcase some amazing technologies developed by its faculty and students. In addition, this is the 5th year of our Michael G. Wells Student Healthcare Competition, of which the winner will receive $10,000 to further their technology and Morgan Lewis will offer $5,000 of in-kind legal services.  Also, new this year a second and third-place award of $5,000 and $3,000, respectively, will be given.

New Age Solution embraces new technology that focuses on solutions that drive business. Congrats to Bellefield Systems! The leader in mobile time entry for firms of all sizes, announced  that it has been recognized by the Pittsburgh Business Times as part of the 2015 Pittsburgh 100. The Pittsburgh 100 ranks the fastest growing private companies in western Pennsylvania. The rankings are based on rates of growth over a three year period from 2012-2014. Bellefield’s impressive growth over the past three years earned the placement of #2 in the tech category and #5, overall. Screen Shot 2015-09-11 At 11.33.57 AMPower management company Eaton announced that James W. McGill has been named president, Electrical Sector, America’s region. McGill will report to Revathi Advaithi, who becomes Eaton’s chief operating officer, Electrical Sector, effective Sept. 1.

“Jim has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities in his many roles within Eaton,” said Advaithi. “His extensive experience, global perspective and knowledge of our electrical business will help position Eaton for continued growth in the Americas.”

McGill has headed the Electrical Products Group since December 2012 and previously was president of the Asia Pacific region for the Electrical Sector. He had been executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Eaton and previously was president of Eaton’s Asia Pacific region. Before that he was executive vice president of the Eaton Business System. McGill joined Eaton in 1994 and began his professional career with Westinghouse Electric in 1977.

Revathi Advaithi, currently president, Electrical Americas region, was named chief operating officer, Electrical Sector, on June 16, 2015. She succeeds Thomas S. Gross, who is retiring effective Sept. 1, 2015. Advaithi will also have corporate responsibility for Eaton’s EMEA region.
