Article Published: October 20, 2014

A simple equation: Communication + Teamwork + Dedication = MDL Manufacturing. Utilizing innovative and cutting-edge technology, along with knowledgeable and experienced industry professionals, MDL
Manufacturing is dedicated to understanding and exceeding customers’ expectations.

Based in Bedford and founded in 1988, MDL’s capabilities include: laser cutting, plasma cutting, CNC machining, welding, robotic welding and engineering.  Each project is sent through MDL’s finishing department and then put through inspection and testing before being shipped to its destination.

“MDL’s customers are and will continue to be the number one priority. The MDL team builds ongoing relationships with their customers,” said President Doug Lingsch. “They dedicate their time, skills and passion to what they do and implement those into results to continuously meet customers’ goals and expectations.”

Over the years, MDL has served a diversity of markets, including construction equipment, military vehicle systems, nuclear systems, architectural fabrication, missile launch structures and, most recently, the oil and gas industry.

The company specializes in automated lights-out manufacturing, the machining and fabricating of complex parts, sheet metal components and enclosures, and chemical- and acid-resistant finishes. MDL is a certified Small Business, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14000, ITAR certified, employs the latest techniques of lean manufacturing, and plans to gain ISO 14001 certification in 2015.

“MDL meets stringent time demands for parts and services for customers. Challenges arise, but the MDL team is ready, willing and able to meet short turnaround demands head-on,” said Alicia Kauffman, who runs marketing and business development for the manufacturer. “MDL has the equipment and the resources to get the jobs completed in a timely manner, which provides our customers with ongoing confidence in our abilities.”

MDL’s corporate vision consists of four categories, according to Lingsch, with customer being first and foremost, followed by employees, community and growth.

“The employees exemplify the meaning of teamwork and dedication,” he said. “MDL is also very involved throughout the community, partnering with local schools to empower students and educate them on manufacturing, participating in events, sponsoring events, volunteering and/or donating to charity-related events. We are proud to be a part of a wonderful, close-knit community.”

MDL Manufacturing was presented with the Letterkenny Army Depot Supplier of the Year award in 2009 for its service to the Army Depot. MDL supplied more than 16,000 Rhino Anti-IED kits with better than 99 percent on-time delivery and better than a 99 percent customer quality rating to support U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

MDL’s 2014 performance ratings include: 99.7 percent customer quality rating and 99.5 percent on-time delivery rating. In addition, MDL currently stands at 831 days of no lost-time injuries. The previous record was 1,254, underscoring that safety is foremost at MDL.
