The Homer City, PA facility opened in 1980 with the first hourly employee beginning work in 1981. As one of five service centers in the Underground Soft Rock Mining Network, and serving as our Shearer Center of Excellence, Homer City offers our customers the most modern and up-to-date repair facility. Homer City delivers high quality workmanship backed by effective warranty programs for their customers.

The Homer City service center provides innovative underground soft rock mining equipment and technologies to customers using the power of data and technology to enhance safety, productivity, and performance through extensive experience and legacy of the Joy brand. Homer City specifically provides dedicated service and technical support while collaborating closely with customers to meet their production needs.

The Homer City facility’s labor force is focused on rebuilding and restoring one of the largest, most cost effective, and most powerful pieces of mining equipment. The Longwall Shearer, a machine with a mass of 72,500 kg (160,000 lbs.) and a maximum cutting height of 4.5 m (15 ft.) allows customers to meet industry demands. The Longwall Shearer is engineered to help productively mine industrial minerals like coal, trona, and potash, additionally JOY continuous miners also mine gypsum and salt as well as the other industrial minerals. The Komatsu Underground Soft Rock business is dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable mining solutions improving everyday life.
