Preamble Secures Comprehensive Patent for Pioneering AI Security Technology

Submitted by Preamble

PITTSBURGH, PA, October 16, 2024 — Preamble, a Pittsburgh-based AI safety and security operations platform startup, announced that it has been granted a comprehensive patent for its groundbreaking system and methods to mitigate prompt injection in AI models.

The US Patent and Trademark Office granted the patent to Preamble, giving the company exclusive rights to conduct (or license its system and method of conducting) mitigation of prompt injection in artificial intelligence (AI) models capable of accepting text input. Preamble initially filed a provisional patent for the technology in May 2022 and has additional AI safety-related patents pending.

This patent solidifies Preamble's position as a leader in AI security and underscores the company's commitment to developing innovative solutions for emerging AI threats.

Prompt injections, identified by the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) as the number one risk in AI security, pose a significant threat to all generative and automated AI solutions. Preamble's patented technology addresses this critical vulnerability, offering a robust mitigation strategy where no permanent fixes currently exist.

"Preamble is the only true end-to-end solution for enterprise administrators and end-users who want to have granular control over every input with multiple models and the tools that they apply to them, including assistants, agents, and AI search capabilities," said Jeremy McHugh, D.Sc., CEO and co-founder of Preamble.

Founded in 2021, Preamble has been at the forefront of addressing vulnerabilities in emergent generative AI capabilities. The company's comprehensive AI safety, security, and governance platform integrates mitigations for prompt injection with other essential AI safety and security tools. Preamble enables administrators and end-users to apply preconfigured and easily customizable configurations to reduce threats effectively.

Key features of Preamble’s enterprise platform include:

  • No-Code AI Platform: A user-friendly, scalable solution that sets up in minutes
  • Customizable AI Assistants: Create and manage multiple assistants across the enterprise
  • Enhanced Security: Designed to prevent prompt-based attacks, safeguard sensitive data, and comply with AI use policies and privacy regulations
  • Safe AI Search: Enhanced search capabilities using AI models
  • Robust Monitoring: Oversee AI interactions, manage risks, and manage API integrations for secure data handling with multiple public or private AI models
  • Ongoing Protection: Continuous support and updates to counter emerging AI threats

As AI adoption accelerates, the need for robust security measures becomes increasingly critical. Preamble's patented technology positions the company at the forefront of secure AI implementation, offering a unique and comprehensive solution to protect against the most pressing AI security threats.
