Saint Vincent College Announces Susan Baker Shipley as Spring 2024 Commencement Speaker

LATROBE, PA — Susan (Susie) Baker Shipley, president of the Pennsylvania, Ohio Valley and Mahoning Region for Huntington Bank, will deliver the principal address at Saint Vincent College’s 178th Spring Commencement Ceremony. Ms. Shipley will also receive the Presidential Medal of Honor.

“We’re honored to have Susan Baker Shipley deliver the Spring commencement address for our graduating class,” said Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B., Saint Vincent College President. “Her work is an inspiration to all of our students, especially our women students, for the many ways that she has broken through barriers to become a strong leader in banking and in the Pittsburgh region.”

Prior to joining Huntington Bank, Ms. Shipley served as executive vice president and head of global trade finance, North America for The Royal Bank of Scotland/Citizens Bank and senior vice president and deputy group head of international for PNC.

Throughout her career, she has been a change agent and catalyst for organizational growth through innovation, successfully managing risks and mitigating them with new technologies and corporate governance. Ms. Shipley’s extensive experience includes building high performing and collaborative teams; business development; strategy planning and execution; community affairs and economic development; federal, state, and regional government affairs; ethics; and compliance, as well as mergers and acquisitions.

In 2014, Ms. Shipley was appointed chair of the Port of Pittsburgh Commission. During her eight-year tenure in this role, she worked with commission members, state and regional leaders and national organizations to secure billions in federal funding to effectively leverage the region’s waterways for economic development and job creation. She is actively involved in the local community, serving as vice chair of the UPMC and UPMC Health Plan boards and serving on the boards of The Allegheny Conference on Community Development the HEAR Foundation and the Champions Advisory Committee for Pitt Athletics. Ms. Shipley also co-chairs the Catholic Charities’ Campaign for Compassion Corner and has led local efforts for Huntington’s partnership with The Ron Clark Academy. She formerly served on the boards of The Andy Warhol Museum, The Power of 32 Site Development Fund, Manchester Bidwell Corporation, The Pennsylvania Banker’s Association, The Pittsburgh Opera and The Children’s Institute.

Susie has been recognized as one of the region’s most influential regional leaders as a 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020 Pittsburgh Business Times POWER 100 recipient. She has been named a Distinguished Alumna of the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business, a Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania, a Woman of Distinction in Business by the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, an Oakland Catholic Leading Lady and an Athena International Finalist. She is a Rotary Foundation International Scholarship recipient and a Rotary International Foundation Paul Harris Fellow.
