Trends Transportation: OneJet Announces Two New Routes

OneJet recently announced two new routes from Pittsburgh International Airport, bringing its total to nine nonstop destinations served, and plans to add even more service later this year.

Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis sat down with OneJet CEO Matt Maguire to discuss the airline’s strategy.

Christina Cassotis: OneJet recently launched service to Nashville, Tenn., and Providence, R.I. Why are these markets a good fit for you?

Matt Maguire: Our business model is based on creating a demand-responsive transportation network, and what this means is that we add routes to small or medium-sized markets that lack nonstop service based on the needs of corporate employers. Nashville and Providence are both strong markets that were underserved from Pittsburgh International Airport. OneJet is filling that gap.

CC: OneJet is obviously attractive to business travelers. Explain why.

MM: The convenience of nonstop service and speed of travel, which can save our customers four to five hours in each direction versus taking a connecting flight. Avoiding connections means that more time can be spent on what matters: face-to-face time with colleagues making business deals and then getting back home quickly to your family. OneJet also participates in the TSA PreCheck program, so eligible customers are able to expedite the security screening process.

Also, we give all of our customers an executive experience when flying with OneJet. We operate seven-seat Hawker 400 jets with all-leather cabin interiors, premium snacks, and free WiFi. And our customer service can’t be beat.

CC: How would you describe OneJet’s product?

MM: I wouldn’t describe it as a luxury product. We offer a premium product with regards to the convenience, consistency and ease of travel experience; however, this is not a private jet product. OneJet is accessible to the average traveler.

CC: How do OneJet’s airfares compare with those of other airlines?

MM: Our ticket prices are generally only $30 to $50 more each way than connecting fares. Tickets can be purchased easily through all major corporate points of sale, such as American Express, or directly through OneJet’s website.

CC: Being the founder and CEO of an airline must keep you busy. When you actually find some free time, what do you like to do?

MM: I’m a new dad to a 10-month-old daughter and I try to spend as much time with my family as I can. I also enjoy meeting great people in Pittsburgh; this has been a tremendously welcoming community, with wonderful and highly capable people. OneJet is proud of our role in increasing opportunities for Pittsburgh.
