Interview by Jonathan Kersting

Brian Joseph, Touchstone Research LaboratoryTouchstone Research Laboratory, Ltd. started in 1980 in the basement of a monastery where Founder Brian Joseph rebuilt a scanning electron microscope and never looked back.

Like a modern-day Thomas Edison, hear Brian tell the story of how he built Touchstone Research Laboratory into a world-class research facility in Triadelphia, WVa., that has earned a reputation as a leading research center known for taking new technologies from ideation to commercialization.

Discover how CFOAM is one of Touchstone Research Laboratory's most success spin-out companies that was sold to Consol. Made from coal, CFOAM carbon foam is designed to meet growing demand for ultra-high performance engineering materials in the military, industrial, aerospace and commercial product markets.

Brian and his growing team keep the innovation pedal slammed to the metal with ventures that include Touchstone Testing Laboratory, a joint venture that performs various testing, such as failure analysis and materials testing; and Touchstone Advanced Composites, a manufacturer of tools (molds) for next-generation aircraft and rocket parts.
